“There is no greater threat to critics than those of us who are willing to fall because we have learned how to rise. With skinned knees and bruised hearts, we choose owning our stories over hiding, over hustling, over pretending. We craft love from heartbreak, compassion from shame, grace from disappointment, courage from failure. Showing up is our power. Story is our way home. Truth is our song. We are the brave and we are rising strong.”
As you get older, you look inside, you dig deep, and you see more and more the ways all the parts of your story shape all the best parts of you. I love deeper because I know what heartbreak is. I’ve felt shame, but my heart wants to fight for the underdog so everyone belongs. I have felt “too much: so I hid, but I’m known now for my honesty. I have a tendency to learn things the hard way, but this failure makes me less and less afraid.
I think our stories were made to shape us, to mold us, and to further challenge us to grow. Our stories have a purpose of reaching into others dark places and saying, “Yes, I have been there too and it’s so scary, but we can make it out together.”
We fought for these stories we can share and these stories are our way home…
